Answering Common Questions

What is optometry?

Our optometry service allows patients to receive comprehensive eye exams at their local health center. Using advanced diagnostic equipment, trained technicians conduct tests while an optometrist reviews the results in real-time.

Your appointment starts with a trained technician conducting your eye exam using specialized equipment. The results are then securely transmitted to a licensed optometrist who will review them and provide diagnoses, prescriptions, and treatment recommendations. If needed, we can arrange for prescription glasses or follow-up care.

Yes! We use state-of-the-art autorefractors, retinal imaging, and visual acuity tests to provide precise and accurate results. Our optometrists have access to all necessary data to detect vision issues, prescribe glasses, and monitor eye health conditions.

Yes! We directly bill insurance providers for covered services, including Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) for First Nations and Inuit patients. You won’t have to worry about paperwork—we handle the entire billing process for you.

Most of our eye exams and prescription services are covered under government health plans and NIHB. If there are any additional costs (such as for specific lens upgrades), we will inform you in advance.

You can book an appointment through your local health center, community clinic, or directly through us. We work with First Nations communities to set up scheduled visits and regular screenings.

A typical optometry exam takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the tests required.

Yes! If a prescription is needed, we’ll provide customized glasses that can be delivered directly to your community.

Our advanced screening technology can detect:

  • Diabetes-related eye disease
  • Glaucoma & cataracts
  • Vision changes & refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism)
  • Ocular surface diseases

If further treatment or specialist care is needed, we coordinate referrals to in-person optometrists, ophthalmologists, or other healthcare providers.
